About

My name is Danielle. I am currently a mom, a wife, a teacher and math coach (among lots of other jobs/aspirations). I started this blog to tie together many projects and ideas in one place. Mainly this blog will try to capture and store what, when and how my two daughters learn. I will try my best to connect this to what I know as an educator, researcher and maybe-one-day-soon-before-I-know-it school leader. I taught and coached in Sunset Park, Brooklyn for 11 years. I miss teaching and working in a school setting dearly. In order to spend lots of time with my children, I recently chose to leave my post with the NYCDOE to work as a math consultant with Metamorphosis TLC. In my new role, I will continue to influence mathematics education that is thoughtful, purposeful and promotes social and intellectual autonomy for students and teachers, practicing what I’ve learned during my career and from the Leadership Program I just recently completed in January of 2013.

My quest here is also to share. I aim to share the learning and teaching journey of my girls so that other families can benefit. I am aiming my audience toward homeschooling parents who have a limited teaching background, parents who would like to capitalize on some of the precious time you have at home with your children and anyone else who might find this work interesting.

I feel that this work is important because Big G is just turning four six and is academically more prepared to enter first second grade than most of the students I have ever taught.  How did this happen?  It’s more than just nature.  She was nurtured in many ways that accelerated her development.  I am extremely proud of her to say the least!  Could this be the path that little g takes?  (so far, so good) Is it possible to offer similar learning experiences when I am not even completely sure about what/when the learning experiences happened for Big G?

I have organized this site into: current learning/happenings/thoughts, which is the main blog page; “Reconstructing the Past” where I will hopefully piece together the experiences Big G had; and, a page for teachers to find resources as I offer them.

I hope that you enjoy this site and that it inspires you to learn alongside your little ones!

Edited summer 2015-This blog has been restarted with high hopes of becoming something GREAT!
